UPDATE:
The heat has been restored to all parts of the building. On Thursday, January 6th we will have all classes in their regular spots. This includes Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
Thank you to all school and division staff for their hard work to restore everything to working order and to keep everyone safe.
On Monday, January 3rd, the boiler at McDermid School broke down. The boiler heats all areas in the original part of the school and as a result, there is no heat in this part of the school.
Our portable wing is not impacted and has heat. Regina Public Schools facility staff have been working on a solution all day and are seeking replacement parts to fix the boiler. This may take a few days.
For the first day of school, Tuesday, January 4th, we will be moving Ms. Howie’s grade 1/2 class, Ms. Osborne’s grade 1/2 class, and Ms. Jones’ grade 3/4 class to rooms in the portable wing that are heated. We will also need to, unfortunately, delay the return of our prekindergarten and kindergarten students until we have heat in all the school.
We hope that by making these moves we are able to welcome back as many students as possible after the holiday break and continue to maintain grade cohorts. Hopefully, this situation will only last a few days but there is no specific timeline for the boiler to be fixed. We will keep families up to date as possible as the situation progresses. Please call the school office if you have questions at 306-791-8502, or send a message through Edsby, or email at mcdermid@rbe.sk.ca.
